Verizon Sets Permanent Copper Landline Retirement Date
Verizon submitted formal FCC notifications establishing an October 23, 2026 permanent retirement date for traditional copper landline infrastructure. The telecommunications giant will transition remaining legacy subscribers to 5G wireless home phone gateways or Fios fiber networks. The decommissioning marks the accelerating phase-out of legacy copper loops in favor of fiber and cellular fixed-wireless access.
