Apple Cash users are getting emails from Apple about changes to the service's terms, MacRumors, AppleInsider and 9to5Mac report on October 5, 2026. The changes come from Green Dot Bank, Apple's financial partner for Apple Cash.

The main change: starting November 9, Green Dot Bank will require users to verify their identity before they can reload an Apple Cash card, per MacRumors and AppleInsider.

What is different:

- Verification is already required when a user adds, sends or receives more than $500 in total, MacRumors says. Verification for any reload is new.

- Customers whose identity can't be verified will not be able to send or receive money or add money to an Apple Cash balance, MacRumors reports.

- Money already in an Apple Cash balance can still be used for purchases or transferred to a bank account, per MacRumors.

- Users with iOS 27 in a state that supports digital driver's licenses can use a license stored in the Wallet app to verify, MacRumors says.

- AppleInsider says users can start verification in Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > Apple Cash and follow the instructions.

What may come later: MacRumors reports that Apple says Green Dot Bank may make it easier to add money in the future by supporting transfers from a bank or merchant. Today, reloading works only through the Wallet app with a connected debit or prepaid card. No date was given for bank funding.

Apple Cash is a U.S.-only feature for customers 18 or older. Users under 18 can use it through Apple Cash Family, MacRumors notes.

Apple had not posted a public announcement of these changes in the sources we checked. The details above come from the emails Apple sent customers as described by the three outlets.
