Apple announced HomePod mini 2 on October 13, 2026, at a U.S. price of $149. Pre-orders open the same day in the United States and more than 23 other countries and regions, with store availability beginning October 30. The speaker comes in pink, green, blue, white and midnight.
The new model uses the Apple S10 chip for computational audio. Apple describes use as a single speaker, stereo pair or part of multiroom audio. Its Sound Glow surface displays light that responds to music and can use colors derived from album artwork. Those are product features, not independent sound-quality measurements.
The Siri AI timetable is separate from the hardware launch. Apple says it will arrive later through a free software update, initially in English in listed markets including the U.S. and UK. Enabling it requires the home owner to have an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad with current software and Siri AI turned on in a supported language.
Personal-context requests also need a paired Apple Intelligence-enabled device. Some server-side Apple Intelligence features are subject to daily usage limits, and Apple plans expanded access for a fee in the future. The announcement does not provide a date for that expanded service or guarantee unlimited requests.
Four-speaker home-theater surround sound requires four HomePod mini 2 or second-generation HomePod speakers in matching front and rear pairs, paired with fourth-generation Apple TV 4K running current software. Buying one speaker does not create that complete setup. Compatible home accessories are sold separately.
Limits: Apple's sound-recognition feature may notify users when it detects a smoke or carbon-monoxide alarm, but the company warns against relying on it in high-risk or emergency situations. The release is not a replacement for dedicated safety equipment or an independent evaluation of Siri AI before the later update.
