Cohere announced North 2 on October 5, 2026, a revamp of its North agent harness, which launched early last year, The Register reports. Cohere's announcement is titled "North 2: Enterprise AI Without Compromises." SiliconANGLE and VentureBeat also covered the launch.
What The Register says North 2 adds:
- Skills: standard operating procedures that document how the agent should complete a task, usually built by working through the task with the agent. Cohere says they are now easier to share across users.
- Automations: generic templates customized in a drag-and-drop interface.
- Libraries: shared knowledge and assets, so agents work from the same datasets.
- Memory, so agents can keep context across sessions.
- Flow control, which gives visibility into which departments use the most tokens.
- Access control: admins can assign access control lists to libraries and skills, so a user can't reach proprietary data just by asking.
Deployment: Cohere says enterprises can run North 2 where they like and use their preferred models, including on-prem in an air-gapped environment or in the cloud. Sovereign AI remains a major Cohere talking point, The Register notes.
Context from The Register: North 2 is the latest of many enterprise agent platforms, and competition has increased as OpenAI, Meta and others turn to the enterprise. The Register frames Cohere's pitch as a safer, more consistent experience than the consumer-style agents that have raised rogue-agent fears.
