Microsoft said on October 7, 2026 that Surface Laptop Ultra is available for preorder as part of its Windows hybrid-intelligence announcement. The product combines NVIDIA silicon with a 15-inch mini-LED PixelSense Ultra touchscreen.
Microsoft lists a 3:2 display aspect ratio, 262 pixels per inch and up to 2,000 nits peak HDR brightness. Its product page specifies a chassis under 18 millimeters thick and a weight below 4.5 pounds. These are manufacturer specifications, not our independent measurements.
The company describes a new NVIDIA chip combining a CPU and RTX GPU, with up to one petaflop of AI compute and up to 128GB unified memory. Peak AI throughput is a vendor claim, not a general speed rating for every application.
Ports include USB-C, USB-A, HDMI, a headphone jack and a full-size SD card reader. Microsoft also describes replaceable SSD storage and published repair guides, while warning that replacement-part availability can vary by product, market and time.
The product page carries a material availability caveat: the device has not yet received FCC authorization, and shipment is conditioned on that authorization. Preorder availability therefore does not establish that units are already shipping.
Microsoft positions this hardware within a broader plan for AI workloads that run locally or in the cloud. Its performance, battery and workflow claims should be tested on final hardware and software; the announcement alone does not establish an advantage for every creator or developer.
